Over the last 2 years the United Way of Greater Toronto (UWGT) and the City of Toronto's Social Development division have been looking at how climate-driven disruptions like extreme heat, wildfire smoke impacting air quality, and flooding impact health human services such as refugee surges. UWGT has initiated some pilot projects to explore how to embed a ‘resilience Hub’ mandate into the day-to-day and emergency operations of our existing hubs. We are also building out ideas with the Canadian Red Cross and Volunteer Toronto to support agencies and communities to get ready in anticipation of more of these kinds of disruptions.
