Guest Speaker Roderick Peters, Ministry Emergency Management Coordinator
Municipal Programs and Outreach, Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MMAH)

 

The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing is responsible for the administration of two disaster financial assistance programs: one for private property owners and one for municipalities. These programs make up the bulk of the ministry’s emergency management program activities. MMAH also assesses damage resulting from natural disasters.
 
Roderick Peters will present on the ministry’s approach to damage assessment and the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders including individuals and municipalities. Roderick will also outline MMAH’s disaster financial assistance programs and some of the program’s key policy issues such as basement restoration and tree damage.

About Roderick Peters: 

Roderick began his career in the Ontario Public Service in 2007 as the executive assistant to the Chief, Emergency Management Ontario. He later managed the emergency management program at the Ministry of Transportation but has spent most of his public service career at the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing as the Ministry Emergency Management Coordinator. At MMAH, Roderick is responsible for the legislated emergency management program, damage assessment, liaison with other ministries, Emergency Management Ontario, and the Provincial Emergency Operations Centre. He leads all emergency management preparedness and response activities including nuclear emergency planning and provides strategic policy advice and practical assistance on the ministry’s disaster financial assistance programs.
 
Prior to joining the Ontario Public Service, Roderick managed public service reform projects in the former Soviet Union and shelter projects following the war in Kosovo and the earthquakes in Turkey in 1999 and 2000. He is originally from Saskatoon, a Chicago Cubs fan, and holds a Master of Public Administration degree from Carleton University.
